A pilot’s checklist does not guarantee that he is able to fly the airplane, but rather it assists him in being careful to avoid missing something that is crucial to a safe flight. In the same way, the five SSSSSteps that we will consider on Sunday morning are not a formula, guaranteeing that we will hear from God, rather they are foundational steps that help us to avoid missing something that will in turn hinder our ability to hear from God.
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for itas for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (Prov 2:1-6)
