John 18:1-14

In John 18:1-14 we read about the arrest of our Lord.

This weekend take some time to read the passage and either think about or do further study on these questions:

In 18:6 we read that when Jesus said, "I am he" to the group of Jewish and Roman guards who had come to arrest him they all stepped back and fell to the ground. What do you think is going on here? What was the significance of what Jesus said? What do you think Jesus' words, "I am he" would have meant to that group of guards? Why do you think they fell to the ground?

In 18:11 Jesus says to Peter: "Put your sword into its sheath, shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?" This is a profound question Jesus asks Peter...what cup is Jesus referring to? What is the significance of the cup, and what does it mean to drink it?
