Men's Breakfast and Work Bee

Update

Thank you so much to the many of you that showed up this past Saturday. We had a delicious egg, sausage, crepe breakfast, followed by a short devotional from Mark.

We then listened as Tonka, one of the Thunder Bay police officers, shared some of his faith journey and how that impacts his work.

If you were here this past Sunday, you will have already noticed some of the jobs that we accomplished.

Mark made a short video of the workday. Hope you enjoy it.

This Sunday After Church

Alexis has offered to instruct anyone who's interested on the use of naloxone. She will be hosting this training in the backyard right after the church service.

Vickers Manor

Vickers Manor

Possible Aid

If you've been watching the Thunder Bay news, you will have seen that there's a situation taking place at Vickers Manor, where 36 senior residents who have been paying rent and meal fees have been left abandoned by the owner. He has reportedly failed to provide food or other appropriate services.

Multiple city agencies are working on the situation, but I stopped by on Wednesday and had a quick chat with Teresa, who is organizing relief efforts. She let me know that she doesn't particularly need more help right now, but after Tuesday, she may need some help with transporting daily food from the Salvation Army to the manor.

If you would like to be involved with helping out in any way, would you kindly respond to this email? This way, if I hear of needs from the manor, I could reach out.

Meal Ministry

Meal Ministry

Would you consider helping?

The Meal Ministry is looking for more volunteers who are willing to occasionally prepare a meal for individuals and families in our TC church family during times of need.

Joining the volunteer roster does not mean you'll be expected to cook every time a need arises. When meals are needed, an email will be sent to everyone on the volunteer list with the requested delivery dates. If you're available, you can sign up for a date that works for you. If not, there's no obligation.

Our goal is to have enough volunteers so the opportunity to serve can be shared among many people. This ministry has been a great blessing to the families we've served, and we'd love to continue supporting our church family in this way.

If you'd like to be added to the Meal Ministry volunteer roster, we'd love to have you! Reach out to Rachel. rachel@transformtbay.com

Be A Berean

God's Story: Beloved King

Abraham's family, the people of Israel, reach the Promised Land, the land of Canaan. They begin to settle the land. God raises up judges among them, rulers that are supposed to help the people focus on God as their King. Nevertheless, sin runs rampant, and by the end of Judges the peole are in a moral quagmire.  "In those days, Israel had no king. All the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes." (Judges 21:25)

The people look at the nations around them, notice that they have kings, and request to Judge Samuel that they have a king. Samuel is displeaded with their request. God was their king!

Samuel brings their request to God. God grants their request. (with many warnings)

Saul is anointed king, but despite his good looks and tall stature (things people looked for in a good king), Saul's character is deeply flawed. God removes the kingship from Saul and gives it to David.

Will David be a good king? Will he be the king everyone is looking for?

God makes a remarkable promise to David, one that continues to fulfill the promise made to Abraham, a long, long time ago.

If you can, read 1 Samuel 16 and 17. Notice how David is not the kind of person everyone expects as a king. He's a nobody. A shepherd with a sling.

Notice what God thinks about David.

Continue on. Read Second Samuel 6 & 7, and First Chronicles 15 - 17. Notice David's heart toward God. Notice the promise God makes toward David.

This is God's Story

Looking forward to Sunday!

Jeremy
