Regarding the latest restrictions...
As you are likely well aware, Ontario is currently in a state of lockdown once again. It may surprise you to learn that Churches in Ontario are facing fewer restrictions than most organizations. While theatres, schools, and restaurants are shut down completely, churches are allowed to remain open with 50% capacity. It would be unwise for us as a church to flaunt this privilege while others are being forced to close. We are going to meet in person this Sunday, but we are going to follow public health guidelines so as to not spread Covid. Guidelines we are requesting to be followed: - Please wear a mask when not in your seat - Please sanitize your hands with the sanitizer provided on your way in - Please maintain appropriate physical distance from those that are outside of your bubble - If we exceed 50% capacity this Sunday we will plan 2 gatherings for next Sunday This has been a tough season. In the last month or so I have had conversations with many of you who have very different perspectives on how we should respond to these mandates and restrictions. Please know that there is no way for us as a leadership team to move forward in a way that pleases everyone. Our end goal is not to please people, but rather to lead in a way that honors God. Let’s not allow these challenging times to divide us. We are not united based on our opinions on how to respond to Covid challenges, rather we are united in our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. These recent lockdowns have been very frustrating for me. I have felt the temptation to ignore restrictions. However, I realize that what we do as a church is a reflection of Jesus in our city. My prayer is that we would behave in a way that honors Christ and points others to Him. Also, these last couple of weeks have proven that Covid is still a very serious threat. I know of several people who have had serious Covid infections, and one who has died. Gathering in person to worship Jesus is vital to our faith, and we will do so whenever possible. Our witness as a church in this city is also important as we prayerfully consider how we respond. Please continue to pray with me for wisdom, discernment, and the leading of the Holy Spirit as we navigate these challenging times. God is with us, and we will get through this. There is hope! Ps. We continue to offer Livestream services for those who are unable to attend in person. I look forward to gathering with you on Sunday, whether online or in person. Love in Christ, Pastor Nathan |
